Mindful Morning Rituals
I have never been a huge morning person. I was a fan of sleeping in as late as I could, which meant setting an alarm that gave me just enough time to get ready and get out the door before being late. I was always in a rush, having time for breakfast on the go or for none at all. I would get to work in the nick of time, feeling cranky and unenergized.
Now, I do things differently. I use every morning as an opportunity to start fresh and to become fully awake to my life in the present moment. I understand the value of having a mindful morning to kick start my days. These are some of my favorite ways to have a mindful morning.
Wake Up Earlier
Waking up earlier has been one of the most impactful things I have started doing to be more mindful in the morning. Rising with the sun allows you to have a moment to enjoy a quietness that only exists in the early hours. You will see a noticeable difference in your mood when you give yourself time to wake up and breathe, rather than rushing out the door just in time.
Get Hydrated
It is very common to wake up dehydrated. When you allow yourself to rehydrate first thing in the morning, you are not only energizing your body for it’s day ahead, you are allowing your mind to recharge. Set Your Intention
Everyone has responsibilities that are awaiting them for the day ahead. What are your goals for the day? What is something you hope to contribute to? Set your intention. Setting these intentions are a great way to live life in the present moment.
Set Aside Technology
Allowing yourself to have a technology-free morning routine will help you stay focused and motivated in your day ahead. Technology and social media are a major distraction. Ignoring technology first thing in the morning allows you to get your most important morning rituals done first. Doing this has helped me go into the day with a positive mindset.
Doing Yoga
Starting your morning off doing yoga is the perfect way to feel refreshed and ready for your day ahead. Whether you do light stretches or a few sun salutations, doing yoga in the morning will help your mind and body warm up for the day ahead. When I do this, I find that I become more excited to start my days.
